The 19th International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology ISPNO2020 Family Day

Date: July 1, 2020

Subject:  Notification of postponement

Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and cooperation in our upcoming 19th International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (ISPNO 2020) Family Day.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by COVID-19.

On behalf of the ISPNO Family Day Steering Committee, we would like to express our sincerest gratitude for all your support and continued understanding during these difficult times.  As you know, the 19th ISPNO Family Day event was rescheduled at the same time as the ISPNO 2020 but later rescheduled on December 13th to 16th due to pandemic earlier this year.

While the ISPNO 2020 will now be a hybrid symposium to connect both local participants, those at the Karuizawa Prince Hotel, and remote participants, the ISPNO Family Day Steering Committee has reached to a decision to postpone the ISPNO Family Day event due to the growing concern of COVID-19 plus the severe winter weather environment to provide the highest health safety measures to project all the participants.

Although, the ISPNO Family Day is postponed, we are planning on providing a video presentation summarizing the situation of Japanese pediatric brain tumor patients and their families related to brain tumors throughout the period of ISPNO 2020 in Karuizawa.

We are still discussing the new schedule and the contents of the ISPNO Family Day event, hoping for some time next year, including (virtual / simultaneous interpretation) between local participants and our remote overseas patient associations. We will provide you with the latest information about the ISPNO Family Day Event on the website of the ISPNO 2020, as well as email notifications.

The Steering Committee is full of gratitude for the amazing support beyond our imagination.  Special thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in the ISPNO 2020, including the Chair of Dr. Koichi Ichimura and all the many wonderful supporters.  We sincerely apologize for the repeated delays and inconvenience with all the rescheduling of the ISPNO Family Day event.

The 19th ISPNO Family Day Steering Committee,

Co-executive Director

Kohsuke Yamashita (Chairman & CEO, Children’s Cancer Association of Japan)

Yuko Moue             (Executive Director, Pediatric Brain Tumor Network of Japan)

2020 ISPNO Family Day Event Information Guide

The family day event will be held on Sunday, June 21th, starting at 0900.  The family day event is organized by the Japanese patient’s family members and not associated with the doctor’s symposium side.  The event is divided between two different programs at that same time; a main presentation for the adults and a fun day for the children. Both events are totally free to attend.  Adults can attend the children’s fun day; however  If you wish to attend, please let us know in advance.  The kids will enjoy Boccia tournament.

Directions to Karuizawa Train station:
Unfortunately, we do not provide any transportation service and getting to the event is the responsibility of the individual.  Once arrival to Tokyo, either Haneda (HND) or Narita (NRT) airport, take a bus or train to the Tokyo train station.  The Tokyo train station is big and can feel overwhelming, but don’t panic, it’s easy to navigate.  Walk to the shinkansen (bullet train) gate and purchase a ticket to Karuizawa train station.  It is about an hour train ride.  The Karuizawa train station is small and there will be directional information about the hotel and event.

Hotel:
The family day committee are organizing the hotels for the guests traveling from overseas to Japan.  There was a small travel grant provided by us to help subsidy some of the travel costs incurred from those guests traveling from overseas locations.  The size of the grant is unknown at this time and will be determined later.

In the event of a cancellation, the ISPNO committee will not be responsible for reimbursing travel expenses incurred.
